Flight turns around after pilot realizes they forgot their passport
A plane was forced to turn around just a few hours after takeoff because one of the pilots realized they forgot their passport.
CNN International reported that the United Airlines 787 flying from Los Angeles to China under Flight 198 had to turn around two hours after it departed LAX on Saturday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. It landed in San Francisco around 5:00 p.m. instead of Shanghai.
United Airlines confirmed the incident in a statement sent to the media outlet. "The pilot did not have their passport onboard," the airline company said.
The plane had 257 passengers and 13 crew onboard.
"We arranged for a new crew to take our customers to their destination that evening," UA said. They were also given meal vouchers and compensation.
According to CNN, the new crew left San Franciso at 9:00 p.m. and arrived in Shanghai six hours behind schedule.
