MRT-3, LRT-2 offering free rides for military veterans from April 5 to 11
Are you a military veteran?
You are entitled to free rides at the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) from April 5 to 11.
The management of MRT-3 and LRT-2 made the announcement in separate Facebook posts, saying that it's in celebration of Philippine Veterans Week. “Ang handog na libreng sakay ay bilang tugon sa hiling ng Department of National Defense para kilalanin at pasalamatan ang mga beterano sa kanilang sakripisyo at natatangi kontribusyon sa lipunan,” the LRT-3 said in a Facebook post.
Jorjette Aquino, the Department of Transportation's assistant secretary for Railways who also works as MRT-3's officer-in-charge, said that they acknowledge the help and contributions of Filipino veterans during the World War II. "Nais natin pagpugayan at pasalamatan ang ating mga beterano kahit sa simpleng paraan lamang. Ito po ay ang paghahandog ng libreng sakay sa loob ng isang linggo para sa kanila at isa nilang companion," she continued.
To avail of the offer, veteran passengers would need to present their valid Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) identification card during the LRT-2 and MRT-3's regular operating hours.
The Philippine Veterans Week is an occasion "to honor not only the Filipino war veterans who died or served the country but also to remember those who rendered honorable military service in defending the country in times of war or peace," according to the Official Gazette. "This is to gratefully acknowledge their contributions in preserving our sovereignty and defending our national security."
