Incoming First Dog Major Biden to have an 'indoguration'
He may not have secured the pupular vote, but Major Biden, who is US President-elect Joe Biden’s German shepherd, is set to have his own virtual ‘indoguration’ pretty soon.
The ceremony will be held by the Delaware Humane Association (DHA) in honor of the first presidential pooch to have come from an animal shelter. Did somebody say, the American Dream?
“Let's celebrate the first-ever shelter pup to become First Dog and raise $$$ to help more shelter animals like Major live the American Dream!” the DHA announced in its Facebook page.
The event is set on Jan. 17, or three days before Biden’s actual inauguration day.
All the proceeds, including the minimum donation of $10 to join the Zoom event, will go to the DHA.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty (ASPCA) to Animals also tipped their hat to Major in an Instagram post.
“We’re thrilled the Bidens’ dog Major will be the first shelter dog ever to call the White House his home!” said ASPCA President and CEO Matt Bershadker. “This is a wonderful opportunity for people to see how fostering and adopting animals saves lives, helps animal shelters, and brings love and joy to families.”
Besides, Major, the Bidens will also bring to the White House another German shepherd named Champ.
While Major will be the first shelter dog to become First Dog, the first rescue dog to have lived in the White House was Yuki, a terrier mix of President Lyndon Johnson who was abandoned at a gas station. Yuki was rescued by Johnson’s daughter Luci.
Former President Bill Clinton’s family cat, Socks, was also a rescue.
