Flight attendant breaks leg while trying to stop passenger from opening plane door mid-air
A passenger from Madrid tried to open the plane's emergency exit mid-air as a flight attendant who intervened suffered a fractured leg in the process.
Business Insider reported that Plus Ultra Líneas Aéreas Flight 701 was traveling to Caracas in Venezuela when the passenger began to disturb other travelers.
The man was allegedly slapping and shouting at the person asleep next to him.
An airline spokesperson said the crew acted quickly and moved the disruptive passenger to another seat.
But that passenger tried to open one of the plane's emergency exits.
Cabin crew scrambled to restrain the man as other passengers watched.
One of the flight attendants, however, broke his lower leg bone during the incident. He was already treated, but cannot work for a few weeks.
The disruptive passenger, meanwhile, was subdued in the back of the plane accompanied by two crew members. He was handed over to Caracas authorities upon landing.
The flight was supposed to last for eight and a half hours, though data from FlightRadar24 showed it was 30 minutes ahead of schedule.
"In no case was the safety of the flight or those on board compromised," the airline spokesperson said.
