Typhoon Karding has caused P141.38 million worth of damage to crops, initial assessment from the Department of Agriculture (DA) showed.

In its noontime bulletin on Sept. 26, the DA said Karding destroyed at least 16,000 hectares and 5,800 metric tonnes of rice, corn, and other high value crops in Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon. Some 740 farmers were also affected by the typhoon.

The agency said some 133,240 bags of rice seeds, 5,729 bags of corn seeds, and 4,911 kilograms of assorted vegetable seeds are available for distribution in affected areas.

Parts of Luzon and Visayas may still experience occasional to monsoon rains in the next 24 hours as Typhoon Karding moves over the West Philippine Sea, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its 5:00 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Karding has slightly intensified while continuing to move westward to Vietnam.

It's enhancing the southwest monsoon or habagat, so rainfall is expected over western sections of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas.

Karding is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility tonight, PAGASA said.

Typhoon Karding is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility Monday night, Sept. 26, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its 11:00am bulletin, PAGASA said Karding will begin to move generally westward in the next 12 hours, continuing its westard track as it moves over the West Philippine Sea toward Vietnam.

The center of the eye of Karding was last spotted 230 kilometers west of Dagupan City in Pangasinan at 10:00am.

The tropical cyclone, however, is expected to re-intensify tonight, if not the early morning of Sept. 27, as it heads toward the West Philippine Sea.

Heavy rainfall and severe winds will still take place in parts of Luzon and Visayas.

Typhoon Karding is drifting away from Luzon but continues to retain its strength moving northwest out of the country, PAGASA reported through its 8 AM weather bulletin.

Per the state weather bureau, Karding has maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 170 km/h.

Moderate to heavy rains will continue over Zambales, Bataan, and Lubang Islands. While light to heavy rains will happen over Pangasinan’s western portions.

The typhoon is expected to either slightly weaken or maintain its strength as it will depart from PAR in the early hours of Tuesday, Sept. 27.

The state weather bureau has reported that Karding continues to weaken as it heads toward Central Luzon and moves northwest out of the country.

During their 5 AM press briefing, PAGASA reported that the typhoon is moving at 30km/hour, faster than 25km/hour reported during their Sept. 25 report.

Heavy rainfall is expected until the afternoon of Sept. 26 as the eye of the storm moves through the central waters.

Metro Manila is likely to experience occasional to monsoon rains in the next 24 hours.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has also released a memorandum suspending work in government classes and classes in public schools at all levels in NCR, Region I, II, II, IV-A, IV-B, V, and CAR on Sept. 26.

Karding is expected to leave PAR at 2 AM on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

On Monday, Sept. 26, PAGASA reported in its 2:00 a.m. bulletin that Karding continued to weaken as it crossed Tarlac towards Zambales and the West Philippine Sea.

At 1:00 a.m., the location of the center "was estimated based on all available data including those from Subic Doppler Weather Radar in the vicinity of Mayantoc, Tarlac (15.5°N, 121.0°E)."

The typhoon's intensity had maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 230 km/h, and central pressure of 935 hPa.

Karding is now in the vicinity of Nueva Ecija, according to PAGASA's 11:00 p.m. bulletin.

As of 10:00 p.m., the center of the eye of the typhoon "was estimated based on all available data including those from Subic and Tagaytay Doppler Weather Radars in the vicinity of San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija (15.4°N, 121.0°E)." It had maximum sustained winds of 175 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 215 km/h, and central pressure of 935 hPa.

The Department of Energy is placing some energy-related facilities and personnel at "highest alert" due to Typhoon Karding.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. wrote on Twitter on Sunday, Sept. 25 that Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Southern Luzon, and nearby areas are included in the move in light of Karding's "possibility of hoisting wind signal no. 5."

"DoE Usec. Wimpy Fuentebella will call a meeting of the resiliency group and hold press conference after," he tweeted.

The Philippine National Railways is suspending operations on all its routes on Monday, Sept. 26 due to Karding PH.

PNR will continue monitoring the typhoon and will give an update on the resumption of passenger trips soon.

Marikina River's water level has been raised to second alarm.

According to the city government's official Facebook page, it has reached 16 meters as of 10:08 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25.

All its eight floodway gates are still open.

A heavy (red) rainfall warning has been issued over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal (Rodriguez, San Mateo, Antipolo, and Cainta), and Nueva Ecija (General Tinio, Gapan, Penaranda, San Leonardo, San Isidro, Cabiao, Jaen, and San Antonio) due to Typhoon Karding. This means "serious flooding" could be expected in flood-prone areas.

PAGASA issued an orange warning over other parts of Rizal (Tanay, Baras, Teresa, Taytay, Angono, Binangonan, Cardona, JalaJala, Pililla, and Morong), other portions of Nueva Ecija (Bongabon, Rizal, General Mamerto Natividad, Laur, Palayan, Cabanatuan, Aliaga, SantaRosa, Talavera, Santo Domingo, San Jose, Licab, Zaragoza, Guimba, Munoz, Talugtug, Lupao, Llanera, Pantabangan, Carranglan, Gabaldon, Cuyapo, Nampicuan, and Quezon), Quezon (General Nakar, Infanta, Real, Mauban, Sampaloc, Lucban, Tayabas, Lucena, Sariaya, Candelaria, Dolores, Tiaong, SanAntonio, Pagbilao, and Atimonan), Pampanga, and Cavite. The weather agency said that flooding could still be threatening in places with the orange warning.

A yellow warning (flooding in flood-prone areas) has been issued in Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Laguna, and Batangas.

Karding has been downgraded to typhoon category as it made its second landfall in the vicinity of Dingalan, Aurora at 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25.

PAGASA said in its latest bulletin that tonight through tomorrow, Sept. 26 early morning, "heavy to intense with at times torrential rains" are expected over Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Aurora, Rizal, and the northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands.

Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Benguet, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Pangasinan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, the central portion of Quezon, Occidental Mindoro, and Camarines Norte.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with at times heavy rains are expected over Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and the rest of CALABARZON and Bicol Region.

The water level of the Marikina River has reached 15 meters, raising the first alarm.

The Marikina PIO made the announcement in a Facebook post on Sunday, Sept. 25, adding that all its eight floodway gates are still open as of 8:59 p.m.

In its latest weather bulletin, PAGASA announced that Marikina, including other areas in the northern portion of Metro Manila, has been placed under Signal No. 4 due to Karding PH.

Karding slightly weakened "as it is about to make landfall in the vicinity of General Nakar-Dingalan area," the state weather bureau said.

At 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, the center of the eye of the super typhoon "was estimated based on all available data including those from Daet, Baler, and Tagaytay Doppler Weather Radars over the coastal waters of General Nakar, Quezon (15.1°N, 121.7°E)."

According to PAGASA, the center of the eye of Super Typhoon Karding made landfall in the vicinity of Burdeos, Quezon at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25.

In its 5:00 p.m. briefing, the weather agency said its eyewall was affecting the Pollilo Islands, where the highest storm signal has been raised. 

Other parts of Luzon, including the northern portion of Metro Manila, have been placed under Signal No. 4.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has approved the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to suspend government work and classes in Metro Manila on Monday, Sept. 26.

The President announced the news in a Facebook post on Sunday, Sept. 25. "I have received and approved the recommendation of NDRRMC to suspend classes and work as specified in their letter," he wrote, adding that the "Palace will issue a memorandum circular stating the same before the end of the day."

Included in the announcement are Regions 1, 2, CAR, 3, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and 5.

The Metro Rail Transit-3 is implementing an adjusted train service on Sunday, Sept. 25.

The super typhoon's "eyewall" is now affecting the Pollilo Islands, which has been placed under the highest storm signal.

According to PAGASA's 5:00 p.m. weather bulletin, the center of the eye of Karding "was estimated based on all available data including those from Daet and Baler Doppler Weather Radars over the coastal waters of Burdeos, Polillo Islands, Quezon (15.0°N, 122.1°E)."

The super typhoon packed maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h near the center with gustiness of up to 240 km/h, and central pressure of 920 hPa.

The weather agency said it's forecast to have the same strength before its landfall.

A super typhoon barrelled towards the Philippines Sunday, Sept. 25, and was on track to slam into the heavily populated main island of Luzon, forcing the evacuations of coastal towns, authorities said.

Super Typhoon Noru (Karding) was packing maximum sustained wind speeds of 195 kilometers (121 miles) an hour after an unprecedented "explosive intensification," the state weather forecaster said. 

The storm, the strongest to hit the Philippines this year, is expected to continue strengthening as it makes landfall around 80 kilometers northeast of the sprawling capital Manila in the afternoon or evening local time.

"We ask residents living in danger zones to adhere to calls for evacuation whenever necessary," Philippine National Police chief General Rodolfo Azurin said.

Classes have been suspended in some areas of Luzon on Monday, Sept. 26 in anticipation of Super Typhoon Karding.

Karding maintained its strength as it continued to move westward at 20 km/h.

In its 2:00 p.m. briefing, PAGASA said the super typhoon still packed maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 240 km/h.

"Super Typhoon Karding is forecast to track generally westward in the next 6 to 12 hours, then west northwestward for the remainder of the day," the agency said.

Super Typhoon Karding, the 11th typhoon of the year and the third one for September, continues to intensify as it approaches the Central and Southern Luzon areas, according to the state weather bureau.

In its 11 AM tropical cyclone bulletin, the agency said that the typhoon’s winds have reached a strength of 195 km/h and its gustiness reached 245 km/h. It continues to move westward at a speed of 20 km/h. 

PAGASA said the country should expect heavy rainfall in the afternoon to tomorrow early morning in several parts of the country.
