Lady Gaga, JLo to headline Biden’s inauguration

The 59th US Presidential Inaugural Ceremonies sure won’t be lonely despite limited audience and major adjustments brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, and the recent Capitol riots and insurrection.

Two of the biggest names in the international music scene—Lady Gaga and JLo—are set to headline the significant event, where Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States, respectively, on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol.

It can be recalled that both performers voiced their support for Biden during the election season. In November, Gaga took part in a drive-in rally, where she encouraged Americans to vote for him.

For her part, Lopez appeared in a virtual chat to endorse the Democratic candidate in October.

While Gaga will belt out the national anthem at the ceremony, JLo will showcase her vocal prowess with a musical performance.

Instead of the usual inauguration ball, a 90-minute program dubbed “Celebrating America” will be held, featuring live and pre-taped performances by various stars including Justin Timberlake, Demi Lovato, Jon Bon Jovi, Ant Clemons, and more. It will be hosted by veteran actor Tom Hanks.

“Through different segments and performances, the program will highlight the strength of our democracy, the perseverance of our people, and our ability to come together during trying times and emerge stronger than ever before,” the Presidential Inaugural Committee said in a press release

“The program will celebrate American heroes who are helping their fellow Americans through this crisis, including frontline workers, healthcare workers, teachers, citizens giving back, and those who are breaking barriers,” they continued.

According to ABC News, there will be “the official swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol, as well as a wreath laying on Arlington National Cemetery with other former first couples, including former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former presidents and first ladies, George and Laura Bush, and Barack and Michelle Obama.”

The report added that President Donald Trump—the first US president to be impeached twice—has no plans of gracing the affair. However, Vice President Mike Pence’s presence is expected, “according to a person familiar with his decision.”
