Couple executed after throwing babies from building to start new family
A couple was executed after throwing toddlers from the 15th-floor window of their apartment just so they could start a new family.
According to a report by CNN International, the pair in China staged an "accidental fall" to end the lives of the man's two-year-old daughter and one-year-old son from his first marriage.
Citing court documents, the media outlet reported that the victims' father Zhang Bo started an affair with Ye Chengchen "and initially hid the fact that he was married with children." Ye later discovered the truth and told him to divorce his wife.
Since Ye saw Zhang's kids as an "obstacle" and a "burden on their future life together," according to the court, she repeatedly asked Zhang to kill them "and threatened to break up with him if he didn't."
The court said the crime took place in November 2020 while they were playing next to the bedroom window of their home.
The two were found guilty of the crime and were sentenced to death a year later.
State news agency Xinhua reported that the court described their criminal motive as "extremely despicable" and "particularly cruel"—one that "seriously challenged the legal and moral bottom line."
