Search engine Google changed its homepage logo with an image of the Philippine flag waving in celebration of Independence Day or Araw ng Kalayaan on June 12.

"Every June 12th, Filipinos celebrate their freedom by flying their national flag high in the sky, just like the one waving in today’s Doodle," Google said on its website.

Clicking the logo would cause the page to have red, blue, and yellow fireworks, which signify the Philippine flag's colors. They also form an image of the flag. The fireworks display may be repeated as one pleases through a button below the page, as well as shared to friends through a link.

Google also gave a shoutout to the Philippine heroes Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, and Emilio Aguinaldo, whose contributions were instrumental in securing the country's independence from Spain in 1898 after a 300-year rule.

Google noted that Filipinos celebrate the occasion via parades, speeches, and a 21-gun salute in Manila, with the national anthem Lupang Hinirang being sang nationwide.

"[P]eople usually enjoy the day off at parks and malls. It wouldn’t be a holiday without some famous foods like kare-kare and halo-halo," it added.

Google Doodle has been commemorating holidays, events, achievements, and notable historical figures worldwide.
