PSA: Malacañang declares April 10 as regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr
There's an opportunity for a long weekend ahead! Malacañang Palace has declared Wednesday, April 10 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadan).
On Thursday, April 4, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. signed Proclamation No. 514 declaring Eid’l Fitr as a regular holiday nationwide to “bring the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr to the fore nation consciousness” and to allow Filipino nation to join the Muslim community in “peace and harmony” in celebrating the end of the month-long fasting of Ramadan.
This is also in line with the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.
Eid'l Fitr is one of the two most important Islamic feasts. The other Islamic celebration is Eid al-Adha or The Feast of the Sacrifice which is being done is celebrated on the 10th day of the last month of the Islamic calendar.
This practice is one of the community’s ways of worshipping and being closer to God. It also honors the prophet Abraham who sacrificed his son to God.
April 9 is also a regular holiday commemorating Araw ng Kagitingan.
