Pepsi has a new look!

The global soft drink brand has changed its logo for the first time in 14 years ahead of its 125th anniversary.

In a March 28 press release, Pepsi said its new appearance was crafted “to represent its most unapologetic and enjoyable qualities.” It will be used in physical and digital touchpoints such as packaging, fountain and cooler equipment, fleet, fashion, and dining.

According to the company, the new design makes use of the following modern elements:

  • Pepsi globe and wordmark to maintain its branding;
  • An updated color palette featuring electric blue and black shades for “contrast, vibrancy, and a contemporary edge”;
  • New can silhouette, which presents it as a brand for everyone;
  • A modern, custom typeface that highlights Pepsi’s “confidence and unapologetic mindset”; and
  • The Signature Pepsi pulse, which “brings the rhythm and energy of music” that Pepsi has been known for.

The new logo features an update from what it has used since 2008, which featured “PEPSI” in bold at the center of a circle with a black border as well as stripes in red, white, and blue.

The mixed soda was created by pharmacist Caleb Bradham in 1893 using sugar, water, caramel, nutmeg, among other spices. He called it “Brad’s Drink” at the time, but it was renamed “Pepsi-Cola” in 1898.
