Animal rights group rescues dog who lost 9 family members in Jeju Air crash

A dog named Pudding, whose family died in the Jeju Air crash in South Korea, is going to be rehomed.

The pooch made the rounds on social media as it was said to be going around a village in Yeonggwang alone after the death of its owners.

Pudding's owner, according to local outlets, was a 79-year-old man traveling from Bangkok, Thailand to South Korea on Jeju Air flight 7C2216 with eight of his family members, including his 68-year-old wife, daughter, and grandchildren.

According to Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (Care Korea), Pudding's family was traveling abroad to celebrate a birthday.

"But they never returned, and the empty house they left behind was haunted by their five-year-old granddaughter's pet dog, Pudding," the organization wrote. "Pudding would stare at every car that drove into town, and the locals would feed her out of sympathy for the loss of her family."

"We found Pudding sitting quietly outside the village hall. When we approached, it ran toward us with excitement, as if waiting for its family."

The canine was transported to a veterinary hospital for health exams. The Strait Times reports that Pudding hasn't been in the best shape as its vomit contained chicken bones and onions, which aren't safe for dogs to eat.

The organization rescued the dog as she was "in danger of roaming the town without a guardian." After contacting Pudding's grieving family, they have taken custody of the dog and are looking for a new suitable owner.

A Jeju Air plane carrying 181 people from Thailand to South Korea crashed on arrival on Dec. 29, smashing into a barrier and bursting into flames. 175 passengers and four of the six crew members were killed in the accident.
