Where to buy plants online: A guide for the plant lover

By PINKY S. ICAMEN Published Oct 02, 2020 12:50 am

In the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, plants, big and small, have given solace to many plant parents, old and new.

Having plants at home is therapeutic; it lifts the spirits and allows one to reconnect with nature, especially during these times of uncertainty. As the home becomes a place to escape, many have transformed their spaces into pockets of greenery not just as a style statement but as a sign of life and hope.

With community quarantine in place, online stores have made procuring these precious plants possible for those who seek to bring nature into their safe spaces.

Here are some online plant stores (some of them have physical garden centers) for plantitas and plantitos—or even just the curious.

Nest Plant Studio

Nest Plant Studio has been around since 2017. Before the pandemic, it occasionally partnered with malls for its Nest Pop-up stores that ran for three to six months. Though the COVID-19 pandemic halted its physical outlets operations, Nest Plant Studio continues to thrive online.

Its Instagram feed sure is inviting with a display of its wide array of products from plants like Sweetheart Hoya (P350, extra small) to Philodendron “Birkin” (P3,950); pots that range from P200 to P3,000; and accessories, and wooden stands and wooden movers that go from P450 to P1,600.

Plant parents also have the option to customize their pots with different finishes and line art add-ons.

Its growing clientele includes Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Solenn Heussaff and Maggie Wilson Consunji.

Spruce Plant Shop

Spruce Plant Shop has a space at Power Plant Mall in Rockwell and its plants are also available on Instagram.

Prices start at P430 for XXS-size desk plants like the Sansevieria “Bacularis,” Money Tree and Sansevieria “Blue Kew”; to P6,900 for an XL Rubber Tree. Its cute and colorful pots are also worth noting.

Plantitas Andi Manzano, Bianca King and Janine Gutierrez have featured Spruce Plant Shop on their respective Instagram accounts.

Plants Manila

Plants Manila’s online store is perhaps one of the easiest to navigate for plant parents as aside from its well-curated Instagram account, its website allows one to have a smooth shopping experience. It even has a Spotify playlist feature named #MonsteraMondays.

Its catalog features diagrams as a guide for plant parents to choose the right plants for their spaces. Here, plant sizes to light requirements are broken down and labeled for one’s convenience.

Plants Manila offers varieties from Sansevieria Bacularis (P280, XS) to a super-lush Ficus Audrey (P12,500, 5 ft.). The store also offers four- to five-foot Monstera “Deliciosa” priced at P9,980.

Plants Manila also has bundled preserved and dried plants like eucalyptus, lavender and ruscus.

Tools and accessories are  availablle, such as pots (clay, concrete, ceramic and rubber), potting soil mix, fertilizer, and the adorable unicorn, dog and puppy planters.

 Qach Lifestyle Garden

Qach (pronounced as “catch”) Lifestyle Garden first opened at Solenad 3 in Santa Rosa, Laguna, and has since added branches at the Alabang Town Center, Ayala Malls Manila Bay, Ayala Malls 30th and UP Town Center, most of which have resumed operations where health guidelines are strictly implemented.

Displayed at Qach’s online store are its plant offerings from succulents to the in-demand Monstera Deliciosa, Golden Pothos and Anahaw; and different planters, plant stands and accessories.

Plant House Manila

A home to fairly priced common, uncommon and rare plants is Plant House Manila, which sources its plants both locally and internationally.

Its roster of available plants includes Moonshine Sansevieria, the bestseller Fortune Plant, Snake Plant, Silver Satin Pothos (which sells out quickly), Sanseviera Bacularis, Rubber Plant and Alocasia Sanderiana.

Planting essentials like pots, plant rocks, potting mix, shears and watering cans are also available for shipping within Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
