PhilSTAR’s Nakakalocal: Kasosyo invades Lucky Chinatown Mall

Vegetarian lechon, healthy baked crisps, Philippine home-made chocolates, handcrafted RTW made from recycled materials and more take centerstage as PhilSTAR Media Group’s (PMG) Nakakalocal: Kasosyo Mall tour hit Megaworld Lifestyle Mall’s Lucky Chinatown Mall last Dec. 3-4.

Nakakalocal is PMG’s advocacy to promote local small and medium enterprises by providing these businesses a platform where they can showcase their products.

“In this day and age it is important that we, as a community, put Filipino products at the forefront and support local business to help our fellowmen recover from the effects of the pandemic in their livelihood,” said Norico Mizoguchi, General Manager of Lucky Chinatown Mall.

“It has always been part of our objectives in Megaworld to uplift the lives of those in our community and impact society in a positive way. Thus, we are delighted at the opportunity to become a venue for Nakakalocal—a trade fair that will showcase a group of sellers, artisans, and craftsmen in different industries and get them closer to more people,” she added.

PMG Executive Vice-President Lucien Dy-Tioco said that it is the hope of PhilSTAR Media Group that SMEs featured in Nakakalocal would someday become big players in the global market.

“When you buy local, you not only buy the pride of the Filipino-made products, but also the culture—pushing the culture of our products. At the same time, you’re not only helping the businesses of our participating SMEs, but you’re actually helping the economy and promote our culture,” Dy-Tioco said in his welcome remarks for the event at Megaworld Lifestyle Mall’s Lucky Chinatown Mall.

Lucky Chinatown Mall is the third leg of Nakakalocal: Kasosyo’s series of mall tours. Each event is hosted by different personalities and has featured performers from Viva Artists Agency. Each mall tour also features games, raffles, and giveaways for mall-goers.

Mizoguchi and Dy-Tioco both feel that the STAR SMEs featured in Nakakalocal are worthy to be patronized by Filipino shoppers.

“We have a total of 10 small and medium-sized enterprises that are participating, and it is truly so special because each of them used home-grown materials or ingredients in their products,” Mizoguchi said. “We hope you can support them, and together we can enrich and keep our own cultures and traditions alive. It is our hope that we can continue our collaboration and sustain more meaningful projects such as this.”

“We’re really proud to be in (Lucky Chinatown Mall) because this is a very good location where all the shoppers are already, right now, busy looking for gifts,” Dy-Tioco stated. “This is the first time for us to be (right) in the smack of December. Shopping na ngayon, and perfect for our SMEs who are here, participating with us today.”

Nakakalocal: Kasosyo Mall Tour at Lucky Chinatown Mall featured local STAR SMEs Taters, Everyday Coffee Roasters, OSH! (Oh So Healthy!), Godel Chocolate, Vegetari Health Bites, Abundance Organica Nutriment, Clara Fragrances, Craftcha, Immuniplus, and Kakaw Galleon Artisan Chocolatier.
