David Licauco achieves fastest time among Pinoys at HYROX Taipei
David Licauco rose to the challenge at this year's HYROX indoor fitness race after he set the fastest time among Filipino participants.
In his debut at the international fitness competition held from Feb. 28 to March 1 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Licauco participated in the men’s open division and finished with a total time of one hour, seven minutes, and 48 seconds.
With this, he set the record for the fastest time by a Filipino competitor in the HYROX Open division in Asia and achieved the top spot among all Filipino participants in the Taipei leg.
He also ranked 53rd out of nearly 2,000 participants and placed 19th in the 30 to 34 age group.
In an interview with 24 Oras, Licauco shared that he trained for one and a half months for the competition.
"Leading up to this event, nakakatuwa na meron akong ni-look forward to, na parang may reason na kung bakit ka nagte-training. Kasi I've been training all my life, pero wala namang parang end goal," he said.
"'Yung competitiveness ko, nabubuhay dahil sa sport na ito," he added.
Licauco is now setting his sights on participating in the upcoming Hong Kong leg of Hyrox in May, but in the doubles division with fellow actor Vince Maristela.
"I just don’t want to beat the Philippine record, but I want to beat everyone, so siguro sasali ulit ako ng open division na solo, and I want to do better sa next," he highlighted.
HYROX is an indoor fitness competition where participants push through a grueling mix of running and functional workouts. It combines eight kilometres of running and eight functional workout stations, alternating between running and functional exercises.
Apart from Licauco, other Filipino celebrities who competed in past HYROX events include Anne Curtis, Erwan Heussaff, Jerald Napoles, Kim Molina, Nico Bolzico, among others.
