Home Buddies members share how to ramp up security and safety in the household
Building a home is not all about decoration, interior design, and online finds in the name of aesthetics.
It is also important to consider household items that will keep everyone safe and sound, as well as those that can be used during emergencies.
In the Facebook community Home Buddies, which caters to household hacks and inspiring stories about home, several members shared essential items one must have to ramp up security and safety.
Solar light
Thieves and vandals tend to strike at night when it is already dark and everybody is asleep. Lights could help expose them or the blind spots they may go to, discouraging them from continuing their plans.
Members recommended having a solar light, which can be charged for six to eight hours during the day and will be fully ready to illuminate pathways and front doors at night. It has a smart light sensor, which makes the lights go on when people come.
The product is available on Lazada.
Home security alarm system
There are instances in which lights do not deter criminals, and that is when a home security alarm system becomes necessary.
The system can be easily set up by plugging in your base station, connecting it to WiFi via the Tuya Smart app, and placing your sensors in their ideal locations.
The sensors trigger the 110dB siren, scaring off criminals while easily alerting homeowners.
Homeowners can receive notifications in the app in real time, even if they're not at home. They may also use the app to change alarm modes and monitor all devices.
The product is available on Lazada.
Electric fence
If one has the budget, a Home Buddies member said they may elevate their security game by installing an electric fence.
The fence, unlike the typical ones with pointed edges, uses electric shocks to deter people and even animals. It cannot be simply bought online and must be installed by a professional.
Romrich Information Technology Solution, for one, offers such a service. It shared a Reel of how it installed the fence for a client.
Aside from electric fences, it also installs surveillance cameras, biometric time attendance access control, private automatic branch exchange, turnstiles, parking barriers, fire detection and alarm systems, metal detectors, structural cabling, carpet installation, and other IT products.
Smoke detector
Sometimes, threats at home do not come from the outside. Seemingly innocent indoor activities can lead to accidents, particularly fire accidents. Whether it's due to cigarette butts, cooking, old wiring, or equipment overheating, one must be prepared for the worst case scenario.
A smoke detector comes in handy, especially when the homeowner cannot easily see the source of fire. Controlled by WiFi and Bluetooth, an item recommended by a member triggers the alarm and sends a notification to the Tuya Smart app. It also has a light alarm function. It has a high-sensitive yet intelligent detection, which doesn't lead to false alarms.
The product is available on Lazada.
Fire extinguisher
When push comes to shove, having a fire extinguisher proves to be useful and necessary.
It's available in different volumes (1 lb, 3 lbs, 5 lbs, and 10 lbs) and comes with a wall bracket.
It's approved by the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Bureau of Philippine Standards.
Available on Lazada.
Neighbors
Ultimately, security isn't only found in material things but also in fellow human beings.
Home Buddies members advised befriending neighbors, as they can help protect you in times of need.
Guard dogs
Another way of keeping the household secure is by having guard dogs, according to a Home Buddies member.
Breeds like Rottweiler, Dobermann, and German Shepherd serve as effective guard dogs. Aside from their size, they're known for being alert, protective, and intelligent, making them great for the job.
