Mang Larry's Isawan opens at new Quezon City address
UP Diliman icon Mang Larry's Isawan has a new home in Quezon City.
A little over two weeks after it shut its doors in the UP Diliman campus, Mang Larry's Isawan opened at a fresh location in Project 8. Its new digs—28 Road 20, Project 8, Quezon City—is currently on soft opening.
"Isaw trip, anyone? Mang Larry's Isawan is officially serving in Project 8!" the restaurant announced on its Facebook page.
With the new store, Mang Larry's Isawan now has three branches, including one on Magiting St., Quezon City and another in Sampaloc, Manila near UST.
On Feb. 20, its UP Diliman branch on E. Jacinto St. closed for good after 42 years following a court order. According to Tinig ng Plaridel, the popular barbecue place was ordered closed after its owner, Laurencio Convencido Jr., lost a civil case against UP.
Because of the loss, Convencido was instructed to pay no less than P47,500 for "unpaid rental arrears," which had been accumulating since October 2021, and his "use and occupation of the property." He will have to pay an additional P1,000, as well, for the filing of the case.
"Sa loob ng maraming taon na palipat-lipat, minsan kami ay lumaban pero ganun talaga merong nananalo at merong natatao… ganun pa man, maraming salamat UP sa pagkakataon na makabenta at mabuhay ang aming pamilya," wrote Convencido on Mang Larry's Isawan's Facebook page as he bid farewell to his isko and iska clientele.
Over the four decades the restaurant was running on campus, it attracted regular diners from nearby schools and offices. Mang Larry's eventually became a bucket-list destination among visitors of the university.
The new location is open every day from 12 noon to 10 p.m.
