Cheese lovers, rejoice: Australia opens first ever cheese train restaurant

When it comes to cheese, how much is “too much”?

If the same question has been on your mind for long, you might want to consider dropping by this up-and-coming food spot for your next trip to Australia, which has reopened its international border to fully vaccinated tourists on Feb. 21.

Situated in Geelong, Splatters is the country’s first and only fully licensed cheese train restaurant. It offers Australia’s top cheeses—with a minimum of 15 kinds, including the La Vera Belmondo Blue—on a 20M conveyor belt that doubles the fun in every experience. 

“We do an accompaniment with each cheese, we also do local charcuterie from Salt Kitchen, and local sourdough breads with infused butters, stuffed olives, bits and piece, all on the train as well,” owner Jo Bangles told food magazine Delicious, adding that they plan to come up with limited-edition offerings from time to time, depending on the occasion. 

Train restaurants aren’t totally new, even in the Philippines, but the ones in the market mostly feature different kinds of sushi rolls. After seeing the launch of another food spot with the same concept in London, Bangles decided to finally go for the idea she had been thinking of for years. According to Delicious, she just thought, “I’m going to do it.”
