Nutella launches first new flavor in over 60 years

Something nutty is afoot.

For the first time in its 62-year history, Nutella is releasing a new flavor, "and it's everything fans hoped it would be," announced Nutella on April 15 in a press release

"Nutella Peanut delivers the same creamy experience fans know and love, now blended with the irresistible taste of roasted peanuts. Our fans have been asking for this for years. We heard them, and afternoon snack time will never be the same," said Noah Szporn, senior vice president for spreads of Ferrero North America.

It's a historic development for the hazelnut cocoa spread, which was born in 1964 in Piedmont, Italy.

"Say hello to Nutella Peanut! A new way to bring a little extra joy to your snacking moments. Who's excited?" the brand wrote in an Instagram teaser.

"This marks the brand's first flavor innovation in its over-60-year history, delivering a new taste experience that blends the unmistakable creaminess of Nutella with the delicious taste of roasted peanuts," the press release read.

Nutella Peanut is available only in the US, for now. According to reports, it may be distributed in wider markets later on depending on demand.

In the Philippines, several variations of Nutella are available, including its primary flavors hazelnut and hazelnut with cocoa. Filipino fans of the brand can also enjoy a plant-based variant, biscuit sandwiches, ice cream, filled wafers, and the spread packaged with breadsticks.

The brand recently went viral when a jar of Nutella was seen floating in the zero-gravity cabin of NASA's Artemis II as the four astronauts aboard—Christina Koch, Reid Wiseman, Jeremy Hansen, and Victor Glover—were on their way to document the moon. It was the farthest distance humans have ever gone into space. And they brought a jar of Nutella along for the ride.

"Honored to have traveled further than any spread in history. Taking spreading smiles to new heights," Nutella wrote on X, patting itself on the back for its inadvertent win.
