Love all things Apple? This 'ultra-rare' Apple sneakers are selling for P2.7M

So you've got the latest iPhone and probably the most recent models of Apple Watch and Earpods too (or, like most Pinoys, have been dreaming of owning one). Now if you're seeking more ways to prove your loyalty to the brand, you might want to add this "ultra-rare" item to your collection: a pair of Apple sneakers that costs about P2.7 million.

The pair of kicks, dubbed "Omega Sports Apple Computer Sneakers," has been making rounds online after global auction house Sotheby's put it up for sale on its website for $50,000 USD (P2,745,000).

What makes the rubber shoes a gem for the Apple enthusiast is that they did not hit the market but were instead distributed as a custom-made "one-time giveaway" to Apple employees at a National Sales Conference in the mid-90s.

Like most Apple products, the leather trainers come in white and have a minimalist design featuring the vintage rainbow-hued Apple logo on the sides and on the tongue.

It is described by Sotheby's as brand new and would fit men with a 10.5 shoe size. Your purchase of the almost three-million-peso sneakers comes with the original box and a free pair of red laces.

The auction house noted that because the shoes have been around for over two decades, a few marks of imperfections can already be seen on them, including "yellowing around the midsoles and glue, and light marks on the toe boxes."

"Having never reached the general public, this particular pair of sneakers is one of the most obscure in existence and highly coveted on the resale market," the production description reads.

It may be starkly different from all of Apple's tech-related products, but its production is not a rare move for the brand. According to Sotheby, Apple was then known to collaborate with brands outside its zone of expertise—like Lamy, Honda, and Braun—as part of its marketing strategies.

The pair of ultra-rare sneakers is just one of the Apple memorabilia auctioned off with golden price tags in the past. This includes a twentieth-anniversary Macintosh which sold for $4,230 (P232,000), a Bob Marley Special Edition first-generation iPod for $26,250 (P1.4 million), and more recently, an unopened first-generation iPhone that sold for over $63,000 (P3.4 million).
