LOOK: Cebu beaches featured on Korean series 'Boyfriend on Demand'
It's no secret that the Philippines is home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, and one in Cebu just got a major spotlight in the Korean series Boyfriend on Demand.
The romantic comedy series premiered on Netflix on March 6, but even before its release, the show was already making waves as it starred BLACKPINK member Jisoo and Reply 1997 star Seo In-guk.
More than the star-studded leads, however, Filipino fans were quick to gush over the breathtaking Cebu beach that appeared in the show's first episode.
In the scene, Jisoo's character, Seo Mi-rae, was riding a train to her exhausting job as a webtoon producer when she began to daydream about her past vacation in the Philippines.
Viewers then see Mi-rae as she admires the beauty of the beach, with the "Love the Philippines" sign highlighted in the background.
"Last summer in the Philippines was the best. When is summer coming?" Mi-rae said, before her daydream ends and she was tragically pulled back into reality.

If you want to follow Mi-rae's footsteps and take a vacation in this tropical paradise, the sequence was actually shot at the Shangri-La Mactan in Cebu, as confirmed by the Department of Tourism.
"Filmed at Shangri-La Mactan [and] the stunning Cebu sea, the breathtaking locations make the drama even more romantic. See if you can spot Cebu’s beautiful scenes throughout the show!" they wrote.
The five-star resort is situated on the island of Mactan and boasts 13 hectares of lush greenery and landscaped gardens as well as a 350-meter white-sand beach.
It has 541 guest rooms and suites and offers a mix of luxury relaxation and wellness, entertainment, and exciting recreational activities.
In a later episode, Boyfriend on Demand highlighted another popular destination—the Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort, located on the east shore of Mactan Island at Maribago Bay.
The resort took pride in their special appearance in the show as they shared screenshots of the scene on their social media accounts.
"Did that scene look familiar? Bluewater Maribago makes a special appearance in Episode 6 of the Netflix Originals Series, Boyfriend on Demand, starring Jisoo and Seo In-Guk!" they wrote.
"We’re thrilled to see a piece of Cebu shining on screen in this Korean Drama," they added.
The resort's area is known for its pristine waters, thanks to the consistent flow of currents of the Hilutungan Channel, making it a hub for Cebu’s renowned diving and snorkeling spots. Bluewater Maribago offers guests easy access to relaxation and aquatic adventures.
Boyfriend on Demand has a total of 10 episodes. It centers on Seo Mi-rae, a hardworking webtoon producer who signs up for a mysterious virtual dating service that lets users experience simulated relationships with different “boyfriend” characters.
