How many places have you visited in the Philippines?

Traveling is one of the best ways to unwind and expand your perspective, and having a visual guide on the number of places you’ve been to further excites you to travel more.

Denz Del Villar, a Filipino software engineer based in Singapore, created a map tool “to visualize how well-traveled you are in the Philippines,” which he first shared on Reddit.

This project was inspired by the Japan version and was built using ReactJS,” said Del Villar, who also disclosed that he used ChatGPT which heavily helped him in making the project.

Anyone can easily use the tool by simply clicking the specific province you’ve been to. In determining your travel level, the criteria is divided into six levels that are color-coded accordingly.

  • Lived there (Red) - you spent a significant portion of your life in that area.
  • Stayed there (Brown) - you slept at least a night in that area.
  • Visited there (Yellow) - you spent some hours exploring the area.
  • Alighted there (Green) - you just dropped off for a short stopover, layover, or transfer.
  • Passed there (Blue) - you passed by that area but did not set foot.
  • Never been there (White) - you need to travel there soon.

Here are some of the famous personalities who took the test:

    Leni Robredo

Former vice president Atty. Leni Robredo joined the trend, sharing her all-shaded Philippine map with a 315 score, which left many netizens amused.

“VP naman e, katuwaan lang to! Meshedow ka po competitive, Ma’am Leni Gerona Robredo!” said one Facebook user.

“Atty. Leni Robredo really said 'Tara na, byahe tayo!'” said another user. While his daughter, Tricia Robredo commented, “Sipag.”

    Aika Robredo

Former VP Leni’s eldest daughter, Aika also shared her travel with a score of 269.

“Thanks to two national campaigns. 2 out of 8 provinces I have never been to are in Bicol,” she wrote, saying she was very “surprised” by the result.

    Kara David

Journalist Kara David also shared her test, scoring 292. She wrote on her Instagram post: “Nakikiuso. Quirino, Catanduanes, Biliran, Marinduque, Siquijor, Camiguin, Antique, Sultan Kudarat, Dinagat, Davao Occidental na lang kulang ko.”

    Macoy Dubs

Content creator Macoy Dubs also shared his test scoring 78.

Netizens also joined the fun trend, including content creator Keziah Medrano or “Hey Kzee” who scored 318, a little higher than Atty. Leni, who scored 315.

Keziah's travel post recently went viral on Facebook, sharing that she visited all 82 provinces of the Philippines.

"It was 2016 when I started traveling, it was more on climbing mountains at first,” she wrote. Her almost eight-year travel journey was put on hold during the early days of the pandemic but managed to complete it last March.

“Traveling taught me many things,” she wrote. “Being expose[d] to different values is [challenging] to me given that I am an introvert. It helped me communicate, shaped my character, and broaden my perspective in life. During this journey I’ve met strangers turned friends.”
