Sinigang lovers, rejoice! The crowd favorite Filipino dish made it to TasteAtlas’ best dishes in the world for 2023.

The popular online food and travel guide has unveiled its annual list of best of the best dishes around the globe. This year, Sinigang landed on the 97th spot, making it the only Filipino food to have made it to the list.

The dish varies by region, but it commonly consists of sampalok, water spinach, hot peppers, eggplant, diced tomatoes, sliced onions, ginger, garlic, green beans, fish sauce, and salt. TasteAtlas also listed its different variants such as pork, fish, milkfish, shrimp, chicken, and beef.

“With its sour lightness perfectly matching the harsh tropical heat of the country, sinigang is a unique soup that is a true representative of Filipino cuisine,” they wrote.

Apart from serving it to traditional households, TasteAtlas also listed places where you can get the best sinigang, including Locavore, Manam, Romulo Café, and The Aristocrat.

Sinigang went ahead of Poland’s Zurek, France’s Steak Au Poivre, and Vietnam’s Pho Bo. Picanha of Brazil topped the 2023 list.

Filipino cuisine has been recognized by TasteAtlas several times. Recently, sinigang na baboy and bulalo were recognized as among the best soups worldwide for November.

Pancit, an all-time favorite handa for every occasion, also became part of the top 50 best stir-fry dishes in the world for TasteAtlas' September list. Pancit malabon ranked 22nd, while pancit bihon ranked 34th. Pancit, as a whole, made it to the 32nd spot.
