Taiwan passport holders may visit the Philippines visa-free for stays of up to 14 days until June 2027.

The Taiwan-based Manila Economic & Cultural Office announced in a statement that the Philippine government is waiving the visa requirement for Taiwan passport holders staying in the Philippines for a short period.

"In line with the Philippine government's directive to observe reciprocity in the visa-free privileges granted to Philippine passport holders traveling to Taiwan, Taiwan passport holders may enter the Philippines without a visa for a stay not exceeding fourteen days," it read.

The privilege cannot be extended, nor can it be converted to other Philippine visa categories.

"This effectively extends the same privilege granted to Taiwan passport holders last year, on 01 July 2025," the statement continued.

Taiwan passport holders wishing to stay in the Philippines for more than 14 days are still required to secure a visa before their travel.

According to Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs, Philippine nationals, "except those holding diplomatic or official/service passports," staying in Taiwan for up to 14 days, are not required a visa. The privilege will be in effect until July 31. There is no word yet from the Philippine government regarding an extension of this privilege for PH passport holders.

The exchange of visa privileges between the two countries comes amid continuing tensions between the Philippines and China.

In an interview with Bloomberg on May 30, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro said that as China continues to expand its military influence in the region, the Philippines is strengthening its cooperation with its defense partners, which includes Taiwan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs "expressed its sincere welcome and high appreciation for this approach" in its statement released on June 1.
