World’s most expensive ice cream is priced at around P300K, and it's only available in Japan

The world’s most expensive ice cream from Japan is made of white truffle, sake lees, and Parmigiano cheese. The 130ml portion comes with a hand-crafted metal spoon.  

The Guinness World of Records awarded Byakuya as the world’s most expensive ice cream on April 25, and it costs ¥880,000 or around P328,000 for a 130ml serving. 

Byakuya, as crafted by Cellato—a luxury ice cream brand in Japan—boasts premium ingredients such as Phantom White Truffle from Italy that costs 2 million yen (nearly $15,000), Sake lees, a traditional Japanese ingredient, and an edible gold leaf. It also has white truffle oil that adds a “luxurious scent” to it.

According to Cellato’s website. Byakuya is best enjoyed in a soft serve state or until the metal spoon can be inserted smoothly, and then pour the white truffle oil and mix. You may opt to leave it for a while until it is at room temperature, or you can put it in the microwave at 500w for 10-20 seconds. 

For an upgraded experience, it can also be paired with aged white wine like Michelle Ranieri Sardonico from Tuscany, Italy, as well as hard rum or a Japanese rice wine. 

Each Byakuya serving has 130ml that comes with a handcrafted metal spoon by Takeuchi craftsmen in Fushimi, Kyoto, which “techniques and materials are also used in the construction of temples and shrines.” It also comes in two different patterns and will be distributed randomly. 

Cellato stated that it has no expiry date, but it is best consumed immediately, about 10 days after purchase to be consumed in its luxurious flavor and texture.
