Makati LGU shuts down Wantusawa after food poisoning accusations

The Makati City local government has suspended the operations of a famous oyster bar in Poblacion.

On February 16, the city announced on their Facebook page the closure order for Wantusawa Oyster Bar for sanitation violations.

In the post, they shared a photo of the restaurant with the city’s Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) attaching a closure order sign on Wantusawa Oyster Bar’s door.

They wrote in the caption: “Inspectors from the city’s Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) served a closure order against Wantusawa Oyster Bar/Twin Flames Corp. last February 13, 2023, at 5811 Jacobo St., Poblacion, for violating the Sanitation Code of the Philippines.”

They furthered that Makati City Mayor Abby Binay “ordered the continuing crackdown to restore order and discipline in Makati and protect the interest of legitimate businesses, Makatizens, and the general public.”

In January, Wantusawa was under fire on social media following multiple complaints from their customers who allegedly suffered food poisoning, with symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting, among others.

In response, the restaurant posted a statement denying the food poisoning allegations, saying, “laboratory tests conducted on samples for those dates formally complained of have shown a negative result for bacteria.”

The restaurant also expressed its dismay at “social media bullying” and reiterated its commitment to safe food services.
