Calling all horror movie buffs! Another chilling trip to Shadyside is about to unfold as a new film adaptation of one of the well-loved American teenage horror fiction novel series, Fear Street, The Prom Queen, is coming to your screen.

Fear Street author R.L Stine shared the news on his X (formerly Twitter) account last Saturday, Jan. 13, saying the movie version of The Prom Queen is in development with Netflix.

"Movie News: I can finally announce that a new Fear Street movie is about to go into production for Netflix. It's based on my Fear Street book, The Prom Queen. Good news!" he wrote.

This came after Stine stated in October 2023 that the film series would continue with additional Fear Street installments in development. It was confirmed by Scott Stube, the Head of Netflix Films, in November of the same year that a fourth Fear Street film is being written.

The Prom Queen was published in 1992, telling the story of prom night at Shadyside High. Five beautiful candidates vie for the prom queen crown but horrendous deaths begin happening.

One of the main characters, Lizzie McVay, realizes that the prom queen candidates are the ones being murdered one by one so she may be the next one to get taken out.

The upcoming film adaptation is the fourth Fear Street film adapted from the book series following the success of Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666 in July 2021. Its fourth installment will feature a new cast of characters, according to Variety

Previous films starred Kiana Madeira, Olivia Scott Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Maya Hawke, Gillian Jacobs, Sadie Sink, Emily Rudd, Ryan Simpkins, and Ashley Zukerrman.

Further details, such as the premiere date and new cast of characters, have yet to be announced.
