Masungi Georeserve to hold defense camp for conservation efforts in April

Published Mar 28, 2025 9:31 pm Updated Mar 29, 2025 9:36 am

For years, Masungi Georeserve has faced relentless challenges: mining, logging, and illegal developments. Most recently, Blue Star, Masungi's conservation partner, was given a notice by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to vacate the 300-hectare area in Rizal. Yet, it remains strong and actively fights for nature's preservation.

In the face of these threats, the organization is calling the public to join volunteers, advocates, past visitors, and partners in a defense camp on April 1 and 2.

"As the georeserve faces an existential threat, your presence is more important than ever—to raise awareness, amplify our collective voice, and stand in solidarity with our brave rangers and local communities," it wrote.

The Masungi Nature Defense Camp will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both days. The event organizers noted that this is not an overnight camp, and guests are welcome to drop by anytime.

On the first day, the camp will kick off with an Interfaith Prayer and Solidarity Walk. This will be followed by an outdoor gathering, where attendees can enjoy acoustic music, foster community bonds, savor local snacks and refreshments, and more surprises.

Guests are asked to wear weather-appropriate attire in green or black and bring their own food and camping gear.

The entrance is free, but attendees must register individually. For Inquiries, email advocacy@masungigeoreserve.com.
