'Ulirang Tita' sequel: Viral aunt who attended her nephew's recognition awards in costume is back with a bodyguard
There are some internet trends that need to be done twice.
Case in point is Annel Ramones' viral 'ulirang tita' post that tickled the internet's funny bone back in July of 2021. In Annel's post, she personified the rich aunts attending their relatives' school events by donning a black wide-brimmed hat, cat-eye sunglasses, and a stoic exterior during her nephew's recognition awards.
Annel shared with PhilSTAR L!fe that her mother was actually the one invited to her nephew, Miggy's, online celebration, but since they were busy amid the pandemic, she decided to go all-out instead.
"So bilang isang extrang tita na hindi naman nakakagala sa labas, pumorma talaga me! I sent them sa family gc and tawang tawa silang lahat."
Although the costume inspired many others after her, Annel shared that she changed back to a normal outfit for the event proper for Miggy's sake.
"Kaso actually nag-change ako last minute, kasi nahihiya talaga yung pamangkin ko! Reading-ready na sana ako!" she said. "Syempre spotlight niya 'yun, and siya yung may award so nagpalit na lang ako ng mas approriate and then inupload ko na lang sa Facebook para hindi sayang effort!"
Almost a year later, Annel is back with an unlocked new character in the 'ulirang tita' lore: a bodyguard. In the new post, Miggy is once again accompanied by her black-donning and bored-looking aunt, but it seems her aunt character got a lot more exclusive.
"Sobrang natuwa yung marami sa last posts ko kaya ako nagpa-sequel," Annel shared. "But this time syempre dapat may mas funny element pa kasi to be honest nakaka pressure yung last post! Kaya naisip ko mag dala na tayo ng props."
She then convinced their cousin to join in on the fun, as he also stole the show with his black suit, sunglasses, cap, and what appears to be an earpiece used by security guards.
"Hinatak ko lang siya, thankfully pumayag naman sa baliw kong idea," Annel shared.
She added that she was the one who pushed the so-called sequel, but this time it was purely for the family's entertainment purposes.
"Actually, ako na naman yung makulit na tita na gusto mag-attend, pero sa actual zoom graduation this time, pero 'di na pumayag lola niya kasi puro daw ako kalokohan! So picture na lang tayo ulit!"
Just like with her first post, netizens have flocked to Annel's page to send their well-wishes and tag their relatives eyeing for an extra look amid the graduation season. The post has since gained over 47,000 reactions and 18,000 shares as of writing.
