Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood return for 'The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum'
Attention, The Lord of the Rings fans! A brand new movie for the franchise is on the way with your favorite actors set to reprise their roles.
As reported by Variety, Warner Bros. revealed at CinemaCon some cast members for the upcoming Andy Serkis-directed movie The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
The film sees the return of Serkis as the titular Gollum/Smeagol, Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, and Lee Pace as Thranduil.
New characters include Kate Winslet as Marigol and Leo Woodall as Halvard, while Jamie Dornan will play Strider, who is also known as Aragorn in the original novel.
The film's premise revolves around the search for Gollum, the corrupted Hobbit, years before the franchise's first entry, The Fellowship of the Ring.
Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou will join original trilogy screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens in adapting the J.R.R. Tolkien source material.
The Lord of the Rings consists of epic fantasy adventure movies based on the best-selling series of novels written by J.R.R. Tolkien. They are set in a fictional land filled with men, dwarves, elves, and hobbits.
The original film trilogy earned nearly $3 billion (P172 billion) at the box office and won a total of 17 Academy Awards.
