Google will soon let you change your old Gmail address

You can soon get rid of those cringey email addresses (like rawr_i_heart_u, for instance) you made when you were younger. Google is rolling out a new feature that lets you change your Gmail address.

Currently, users can't edit their email addresses if they end in @gmail.com, but an update will soon come.

Multiple tech outlets reported seeing a Google account support page in Hindi that is allowing certain users to tweak their email.

"The email address associated with your Google Account is the address you use to sign in to Google services. This email address helps you and others identify your account. If you'd like, you can change your Google Account email address that ends in gmail.com to a new email address that ends in gmail.com," the page reads, as translated by Google.

It added that the email address can be changed when you click on your icon on the upper right-hand side and select Manage your account. Then go to Personal info > Google Account email address. This will then show you an option to change your email name.

Google noted that users must make sure to back up any data before changing their email address.

Currently, the feature is not yet available in the Philippines, but the tech giant said it is "gradually rolling out to all users." Furthermore, there's no official announcement yet about the upcoming function.

When you change your address, your old one will become an alias. You'll still receive emails sent to your old address, and data saved in your account will not be affected.

Google also said that you can reuse your old email address at any time. However, you can only change up to three times.

Recently, in the Philippines, the tech giant launched Google Pay in the country, enabling users to store their credit and debit cards and make contactless payments.
