Meta's newest video-editing app, Edits, is here

Don't you just hate switching between a dozen apps to make a video? Meta gets it. The American tech company just debuted Edits, a video editing app that lets you edit videos while gaining data-driven insights for your social media content.

According to the tech giant, the new app aims to single-handedly help creators to record, edit, and publish videos directly from their devices, while gaining data-driven insights in one platform.

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri said on his Threads post in January that the app will be “pretty different than CapCut” and will be more “creators than casual video makers.”

“Edits will have a much broader range of creative tools and probably a smaller addressable audience. Think a place to track all your ideas instead of templates. Think AI video editing tools on a per clip or per video basis. Think new insights on why your videos are succeeding or struggling,” he wrote.

What to expect

Meta Edits offers a comprehensive set of editing functionalities to streamline the video creation process. Users can efficiently apply auto-enhancements to achieve resolutions up to 4K, manage frame rates, and select between Standard and High Dynamic Range color profiles.

It also incorporates visual effects, including green screen and transition options. Users can record and edit videos with a maximum length of ten minutes, and publish them on Facebook and Instagram.

If you intend to upload them on other platforms, you may simply export and post as it is—it will not have watermarks.

The data-driven insights feature, which provides real-time feedback about reach, engagements, and total views, among other things, helps users better understand how to improve their video content.

Per Meta, they are still improving the app. Some features that will be added soon include more fonts, text animations, voice effects, transitions, and music options, including royalty-free ones.

It is also set to have a collaboration feature where you can share drafts with other creators or brands, and modification where you can spruce up your videos with AI effects. For the more technical side, they are also working with keyframes that can easily adjust the video’s timing, motion, and effect in an exact way you intend to.

To try, download Edits on the App Store or Google Play, and like Threads, you can create an account by signing in with your Instagram account.
