'Narnia' by Greta Gerwig delayed to 2027 release
Heads up, Narnia fans! You have to wait a little longer before the beloved fantasy novel series returns to the big screen.
Netflix announced in a statement that director Greta Gerwig's Narnia movie will move to a Feb. 12, 2027 theatrical release instead of November 2026. The movie will also have IMAX-only sneak previews on Feb. 10 and will arrive on Netflix months later on Apr. 2.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, IMAX said the delay was to give Gerwig's movie "a full theatrical window" for its worldwide release.
“Working with Netflix to bring this film to life has been extraordinary and IMAX continues to be an incredible partner. I cannot wait for people to see the film in theaters on February 12 and on Netflix on April 2,” Gerwig told Netflix's Tudum.
“I was a child when I first read The Magician’s Nephew, and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life,” she added.
Narnia is one of the few Netflix films to be shown in theaters alongside the Knives Out movies and KPop Demon Hunters.
The Magician’s Nephew is the sixth book in C.S. Lewis’ portal fantasy series which centers on Narnia's creation by the mythical lion Aslan. The film is the first-ever big screen adaptation starring newcomers David Mckenna and Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Cary Mulligan, Meryl Streep and Daniel Craig.
Gerwig is also producer of the adaptation alongside Patricia Whitcher, Douglas Gresham, Melvin Adams, and Amy Pascal.
