Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser offers 'out of this world' staycation experience

Published Nov 18, 2020 4:56 am

A getaway to "A galaxy far, far away" sounds like a dream come true right now. With everything happening in the world, who wouldn't want to leave planet Earth behind and live aboard a luxury starship to explore other worlds, even if it's just for a couple of days?

Disney Parks shared updates on Monday (Nov. 16) regarding several Disney-related projects across the globe including the upcoming Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel.

The theme park shared new official photos taken inside the actual hotel room cabins expected to debut in 2021 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida as well as a progress photo of the exterior of the hotel building underway in a video update.

Based on the Halcyon, a Corellian MPO-1400 Star Cruiser, the starship hotel will be connected to the Star Wars "Galaxy's Edge," a themed area of the park where guests can explore the remote outpost, fly the Millennium Falcon and live out their Star Wars adventures.

Twitter account @bioreconstruct posted an aerial photo showing the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel relative to Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.

Living aboard in space-view cabins offers the ultimate experience for hardcore Star Wars fans with cash to burn. Imagine the typical Disney theme park experience brought to Westworld levels where guests can actually live and explore the park at their leisure.

This new type of immersive vacation being developed by Disney will offer a two-night, cruise-style itinerary where guests will become heroes of their own adventure in an experience that surrounds everyone 24/7 in Star Wars storytelling.

One cabin in the Starcruiser Hotel shows a queen bed with themed bedding and two padded bunk bed “pods” along the wall. The other side features an open storage space and what looks like a small safe and fridge. The room’s door resembles airlock-style doors typically seen in spaceship cabins in Sci-fi TV shows and movies.

Each cabin in the Galactic Starcruiser offers a view of "the galaxy" beyond, with changing views as the ship makes its way across space. A screen mounted to the wall of the cabin (which probably doubles as a TV) shows the ship’s current trajectory. A minimalist table pulls out from the wall, with futuristic stools to sit on beneath it. The cabins offer compact, living quarters ideal for a small family's space adventure.

The rooms come in two sizes: A regular sized cabin, and larger “Captain’s Quarters” cabin. Each floor is set to have 32 regular cabins and two first-class cabins. Most cabins can sleep up to five passengers. According to an earlier report by WDWNT, the expected pricing for a 2-night/2-day stay in the regular cabins starts at $3,300 for one person, or just over $1,000 per person, per day.

Ouch. Well, a stay in space was never going to be cheap, but the views are out of this world!

The luxury starship comes complete with high-end dining and all of the exciting action you would expect from an authentic Star Wars experience. Much like on the Disney Cruise Line, food, select beverages, and entertainment will also be included as part of the experience.

On-board activites include Lightsaber battle training, a bridge tour of the ship, and a "Planet Excursion" to Batuu to visit Black Spire Outpost at Galaxy's Edge, among others.

According to Disney, reservations will open later this year for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, which is expected to debut in 2021 at Walt Disney World Resort.
