Fan of watching heist series? This new Netflix show will not only entertain you, but you get to puzzle up the whole series according to your choice of episode sequence.
On Dec. 14, Netflix released the official trailer of the new heist series Kaleidoscope, which is set to be released on Jan. 1, 2023.
According to its official synopsis, the series will center on a crew of masterful thieves who will work together to unlock the ‘most secured vault’, but needs to make it through the world’s most powerful corporate security team and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
In a Netflix Tudum interview with the show creator, Eric Garcia, the series is loosely based on “something that might have happened” after USA, along with other countries like Jamaica and The Bahamas, was ravaged by Hurricane Sandy.
This superstorm, which lasted from Oct. 22 to Nov. 2, 2012, is the largest Atlantic hurricane on record and caused 150 fatalities in the US alone. Part of the damages brought by the hurricane to the US was the flooding in Manhattan, which the Depository Trust & Clearing Corp. reported to have damaged stocks and bond certificates kept in its underground vault.
“After Hurricane Sandy, $70 billion worth of bonds got flooded in the basement of the DTCC, which is a large clearing effort that’s owned by a bunch of the big banks," Garcia said. "To my mind, I was like, ‘Well, that’s a perfect coverup for a heist!’”
This series will be starred by Giancarlo Esposito, Paz Vega, Rufus Sewell, Tati Gabrielle, Peter Mark Kendall, Rosaline Elbay, Jai Courtney, Niousha Noor, Jordan Mendoza, Soojeong Son, Hemky Madera.
To make the show more interesting, each episode is named by colors, fully blinding the audience on what to expect. This also means that viewers can watch the whole series according to their choice of sequence, providing every viewer with different viewpoints.
“There are questions that are going to be asked in one episode that are answered in another episode,” says Garcia. “Similarly, there'll be answers in an episode that you're watching that you don't even know are answers to something until you see the question when you watch another episode.”
