Fil-Am singer Sofronio Vasquez enters Top 8 of 'The Voice' USA
A Filipino-American singer made it to the Top 8 of the reality competition of The Voice USA.
Sofronio Vasquez, who hails from Misamis Oriental and lives in Utica in New York, announced his feat in a Facebook post on Nov. 27.
"I made it to TOP 8! Thank you Lord and now its now in Americas hands," he said. "Daghang Salamat coach Michael Bublé for this opportunity. Not wasting this chance."
During the playoffs, Vasquez sang Crying by Roy Orbinson, showcasing his clean, smooth voice and sustaining high notes several times.
This made his mentor Bublé shout, "Whoo," and give him a standing ovation.
"That's how you do it in the playoffs," Bublé can be heard saying at the end of the video uploaded by The Voice's YouTube channel.
In a Facebook video posted on Nov. 28, Vasquez asked fellow Filipinos and Americans for support.
"SANA TULUNGAN NYO PO AKO sa Monday, Dec. 2 (1st Liveshows)," he said in the caption, as he shared links to the website of the show's network, NBC, and the App Store link for The Voice app. "Help me reach the finale and Be the First Filipino and Utican winner."
"I just wanna say thank you for the love, support, and prayers. I truly appreciate everyone," he said. "I hope you still continue to support me by voting."
"To all the Filipinos, to Utica, my hometown here in America, and to all Americans that believe I I deserve to be part of the Top 5, I hope you vote for me guys," he added. "Maraming maraming po sa pagmamahal at suporta 'nyong lahat."
Vasquez previously joined theTawag ng Tanghalan segment of ABS-CBN's It's Showtime.
Now on its 26th season, The Voice features a panel of four coaches, who are critically and commercially singers themselves, who mentor their respective teams of artists throughout the show.
This season's coaches are Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, Reba McEntire, and Bublé.
Winners are determined by telephone, internet, SMS text, and iTunes Store purchases of the audio-recorded artists' vocal performances.
