WATCH: Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ teaser

Marvel's latest teaser release just confirmed last week's rumors: Steve Rogers is back for Avengers: Doomsday!

In the one-minute-and-a-half clip, a piano version of the Avengers theme plays as Steve can be seen riding his Triumph motorcycle home. He sets aside a blue helmet as he enters a house, reminiscent of Peggy's residence in the final moments of Avengers: Endgame. He can be seen pulling out a scaled, star-spangled costume, which he wore in an epic fight with Thanos. The camera then focuses on what appears to be a newborn baby as Steve holds it in his arms with a smile. “Steve Rogers will return for Avengers: Doomsday,” a message read, followed by a countdown timer expiring on December 18, 2026, the film's release date.

The scene plays out exactly as described in online reviews of a leaked trailer, as reported by Variety. More character-focused trailers will reportedly be released following screenings of 20th Century Studios' sci-fi giant Avatar: Fire and Ash. A trailer was also reportedly leaked featuring Norse god and crowd favorite Thor.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo reposted the Rogers teaser on Instagram with the caption: "The character that changed our lives. The story that brought us all here together. It was always going to come back to this." The brothers retired Rogers' Captain America in Endgame and passed the mantle to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), donning a winged version of the character.

In June, Evans previously denied being in the latest Avengers movie. "I mean, it's sad to be away. It's sad to not be back with the band, but I'm sure they're doing something incredible, and I'm sure it's going to be that much harder when it comes out, and you feel like you weren't invited to the party," he told ScreenRant.

Evans' Captain America was last seen in the 2019 film Endgame, where he traveled through time to return the Infinity Stones to their proper timelines. He later returned to the main MCU timeline as an elderly man. There, he passed his Vibranium shield to Sam Wilson—formerly known as the Falcon—and was finally reunited with his beloved, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).

The actor also previously made a surprise cameo in the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, but as Human Torch, a role he played in the 2005 iteration of Fantastic Four.

His surprise return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe marks a reunion with the original cast, including Robert Downey Jr., who will play the ultimate villain, Doctor Doom, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston's Loki, Sebastian Stan, and more.

Stars from X-Men will also appear in a crossover, including Channing Tatum, Ian McKellen, James Marden, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Comming.
