Foldables aren't just a gimmick anymore—they give you the expansive screen of a tablet in a device that still fits in your pocket.
Now that Apple has officially entered the ring with the iPhone Duo, it’s going head-to-head with Samsung, which launched the category back in 2019 and is already on its eighth-generation Galaxy Z Fold.
Both phones have a book-style design that opens up into a bigger screen, but each one offers unique features that may appeal to different users.

Galaxy Z Fold8
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is Samsung’s latest book-style foldable, giving users a regular phone screen when closed and a bigger display when opened. Its 7.6-inch inner screen is made for watching YouTube videos, TV shows, and movies. Folded, the taller outer display is tailor-made for vertical scrolling on TikTok, Reels, and Shorts.
The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, which also supports Samsung’s Galaxy AI features. One of these is Now Nudge, which can suggest helpful actions based on what you’re doing. For example, it can recommend using split screen when you're multitasking.
The Fold8 also comes with AI-powered tools for photos and documents. Photo Assist can help clean up and edit pictures, while My FanCam can automatically create social media-ready videos without requiring you to crop them yourself. There’s also Document Scan, which can scan multiple pages at once.
The phone comes with a 4,800mAh battery, an upgrade from its predecessor, and is available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options.
For those who want to use their phone for both entertainment and work, the Fold8's larger screen can come in handy when you need more space to get things done.
In the Philippines, the Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at P109,990 for the 256GB model. The 512GB version costs P123,990, while the 1TB model is priced at P151,990.

iPhone Duo
Apple’s iPhone Duo is the company’s first foldable phone, bringing the familiar iPhone experience to a new design.
When folded, the phone has a 5.4-inch outer screen. Open it up and you get a 7.6-inch display, giving you more room for watching videos, browsing, and other activities.
Apple also designed iOS 27 specifically for the foldable. The phone can be used in different positions, including half-folded, and the screen automatically adjusts depending on how you hold it.
You can also use two apps side by side through Split View. For example, you can browse Safari while watching something on Netflix, or maybe watch a product review while you add-to-cart on Shopee or Lazada.
For photos, the iPhone Duo has two 48MP Fusion cameras at the back. Its foldable design also brings new ways to take pictures and videos.
One of these is Duo Preview, which lets you see a live preview on the outer screen while taking a photo. This can be useful if you’re taking a photo of yourself or recording content and want to check how you look.
The phone also has Duo FaceTime, while its front camera supports Apple’s Center Stage feature.
Under the hood, the Duo runs on Apple’s A20 Pro chip and supports Apple Intelligence. This includes an upgraded Siri and new photo-editing tools such as Spatial Reframing, which can help adjust the composition of certain shots.
The phone has two batteries—one on each side—and Apple says it can last up to 24 hours on a single charge when using both screens equally.
It also supports Touch ID through the side button instead of Face ID. Apple Pencil support is coming later in the year for taking notes, sketching, and other tasks.
The iPhone Duo comes in Star White and Night Sky and starts at P159,990 for the 256GB model. The 512GB version costs P175,990, while the 1TB and 2TB versions are priced at P207,990 and P254,990, respectively.
