Samsung launches three new foldables, including Galaxy Z Fold8 in new size
The latest foldable Galaxy devices have been unveiled, and there's a new form factor in the lineup.
On July 22, Samsung unpacked the Galaxy Z8 series, which includes the Galaxy Z Flip8, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra—the spiritual successor of the Galaxy Z Fold7—and the newly sized Galaxy Z Fold8.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 comes in a refreshed rectangular screen size: its inner screen is shorter than its predecessors at 7.6 inches. This makes it perfect for watching YouTube videos, TV series, and movies. On the other side, the cover screen features a 10:16 aspect ratio, making it ideal for scrolling through TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip8 continues to be the most stylish and pocketable of the three with its clamshell-folding 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Design-wise, the device doesn't deviate from the previous Z Flip phone. The outer screen still carries the same horizontal dual camera setup and an edge-to-edge cover display for notifications at a glance, widgets, and the camera.
Last in the line is the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which inherits the book-like folding design of the Galaxy Z Fold7. This device's 8-inch main screen is perfect for busybodies who need to get work done on the go.
Specs-wise, all three foldables are powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, which enables Galaxy AI capabilities. The battery life on the phones got an upgrade: the Z Fold Ultra packs a 5,000mAh battery, and the Z Fold 8 carries a 4,800mAh battery. Meanwhile, the Z Flip still has the same 4,300mAh as its predecessor.
On the software side, Galaxy AI introduces features like Now Nudge, which makes suggestions for actions like recommending split view for a multitasking moment.
It also brings AI editing features like Photo Assist for cleaning up and touching up pictures, My FanCam for creating social-ready content without the need to manually crop videos, and Document Scan for scanning multiple pages seamlessly.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra will be available in stylish colorways of Violet Shadow, Cream, Graphite, and Green Shadow (online exclusive), while the Galaxy Z Fold8 will come in Lavender, Cream, Graphite, and Pistachio (online exclusive).
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip8 rocks cool colors of Pink, Cream, Graphite, and Mint (online exclusive).
