BINI’s 'Cherry on Top' performed at LA Clippers game

Pinoy pride was on show at the halftime show of the L.A. Clippers vs. Toronto Raptors game on Nov. 10 as BINI's latest single Cherry on Top was played for NBA fans.

Instead of the P-pop group, however, members of the L.A. Clippers’ official dance team Clippers Spirit were the ones who performed the song's iconic dance routine.

Nevertheless, it was a proud moment for spotlighting local music on the international scene, especially since five members of the dance team are half Filipinos.

"The Clippers Spirit's rendition of Cherry On Top at last night's Filipino Heritage Night game was truly on top! Thank you for bringing BINI and the Pinoy spirit to the NBA!" BINI's official account on X posted.

Many of the group's fans showered them with their heartiest congratulations for the song's success beyond the local scene.

"Wow, international na talaga yung song nila," one user wrote.

Cherry on Top was released on June 10 earlier this year and has been described as a bubblegum pop song targeted towards BINI's global audience. It accumulated 3 million streams on Spotify and its music video currently has over 41 million views.

The NBA nod is just one of the many milestones that BINI has achieved as of late. They recently won the "Best Asia Act" award at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA), beating South Korea's ILLIT, Indonesia's Mahalini, Malaysia's MASDO, and Japan's Sakurazaka46.

"We're so thankful for winning the Best Asia Act in this year's MTV Europe Music Awards," BINI Jhoanna said in a video posted on MTV Asia's X.

"We hope we can keep sharing our music with you and that the world can discover more of Filipino music," BINI Mikha added.

BINI, comprised of Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena, further highlighted that the award "means the world to us, seeing Filipino music shine on the global stage."

This latest recognition comes just days before BINI's highly anticipated three-day "Grand BINIverse" concert on Nov. 16 to 18 at the Araneta Coliseum. Regine Velasquez will perform at the nation's girl group's shows on Nov. 16 and 17, while Gary Valenciano, Maymay Entrata, and Vice Ganda are set to grace their Nov. 17 and 18 concerts.
