Julie Andrews documentary set for 2027 release in Disney+
Let's start at the very beginning: Disney+ has announced its plans to release a documentary on iconic actress, singer, and author Dame Julie Andrews in 2027.
"Courage, resilience, grace. The definitive documentary on the legendary Julie Andrews is coming to Disney+ in 2027," wrote the streaming platform on Instagram Wednesday.
On her own platform, Andrews shared the documentary will be directed by documentarian RJ Cutler, whose previous credits as producer include documentaries BTS: The Return, Elton John: Never Too Late, and Martha.
"More details to come," Team Julie wrote on Instagram.
Andrews, 90, is a multi-awarded artist with eight decades of work under her belt. Older fans will know her as 1964's Mary Poppins and Maria in 1965's The Sound of Music. Younger audiences will recognize Andrews' voice as the narrator in the Netflix period romance Bridgerton, and for her recurring role as Queen Clarisse in The Princess Diaries franchise.
She won an Academy award for Best Actress for Mary Poppins, a Grammy award as Best New Artist and Best Recording for Children for the same film, and an Emmy award for Outstanding Variety Musical Series for 1973's The Julie Andrews Hour.
Although she's been nominated three times for a Tony award—for Camelot, My Fair Lady, and Victor/Victoria—Andrews hasn't won yet.
Outside her acting and singing career, Andrews has been busy working as an author. Along with her daughter, bestselling and award-winning author Emma Walton Hamilton, Andrews co-authored over 25 books for children and adults. According to Hamilton's website, nine of their books have landed on the New York Times bestseller list, including The Very Fairy Princess series, which got the top spot, Julie Andrews' Collection of Poems, Songs, and Lullabies, and Julie Andrews' Treasury: Poems and Songs to Celebrate the Seasons.
In 2000, Andrews was made a dame by Queen Elizabeth II.
