TWICE equals joy times two

By MONIQUE TODA, The Philippine STAR Published Jul 11, 2021 6:00 am

The simple pleasure of eating together in a restaurant is one of the first few things the members of the super K-pop girl group TWICE will do when we are all allowed to go mask-less.

I learned this and other insights as I got to virtually see up-close and speak to the lovely Cheer Up and TT singers. We spoke about their new fun song, fashion style offstage, and personal views on online concerts, which were brought about by the pandemic.

The lovely ladies of TWICE are Bench Global Ambassadors.

Watching TWICE perform is a visual delight; eye candy in every sense. The nine members — namely Dahyun, Jeonghyeon, Nayeon, Jihyo, Tzuyu, Momo, Mina, Sana, and Chayoung — look like fairies to me, enchanting in their individual beauty.

Their vibrant music videos and upbeat songs combined with their great vocals are addicting. It is no wonder they are quite popular and have a loyal following in Korea and the rest of the globe.

Meeting them was great timing, as their mini-album, “Taste of Love”, had just been released.

Their lead video Alcohol-Free is a fun but sober song on being drunk in love. The Latin vibe shows the girl group’s venturing into other genres and being more experimental.

In the recently released Perfect World music video (from the Japanese album of the same name), the lovely ladies are seen singing and dancing in an old-school theater with red velvet drapes and chandeliers.

Alcohol-Free is the latest Latin vibe song of TWICE

In the audience are multiple “phantoms of the opera” with half-covered faces. They sing about women asserting themselves after the breakup of a bad relationship, telling the supposed lover to “get lost.” In the end, the theater is left burning.

I watched TWICE at a recent live event via the Kumu app organized by fashion brand Bench.

‘We’ve all been to the Philippines for a concert, and we usually just stayed at the hotel. But if we get to visit again, I personally want to go to Boracay,‘ Dahyun shares.

It was an opportunity for its Philippine Once fandom to virtually interact with the popular group. There were online games, fan interactions and they even performed a few songs. I have to say, the girls are tireless and were perky and lively even if the event lasted around three hours.

Our one-on-one had me facing the nine members of TWICE and asking these questions:

THE PHILIPPINE STAR:  Your new song and video Alcohol-Free has a Latin vibe. Was it a fun experience getting into that genre?

NAYEON:  As much as it was a new genre that we were trying, it was fun and we were excited to show our fans this new side of us.

What is your experience doing online concerts?

MINA: Because of the situation, we weren’t able to meet our fans face to face, but doing online concerts like this, people from all over the world can see us, so I think this is a merit.

Momo, Mina and Tsuyu of Twice in Bench

What is the first thing you will do when we can already go mask-less in public?

JIHYO: It’s been so long since all nine of us have eaten outside together, so the first thing I want to do is have a meal at a restaurant all together.

Can each of you describe your fashion style outside of the stage?

TWICE: Rough, casual and comfortable.

Have any of the members been to the Philippines? If so, where? If not, where would you like to go?

DAHYUN: We’ve all been there for a concert, and we usually just stayed at the hotel. But if we get to visit again, I personally want to go to Boracay.
