We all float down here
A float-in cinema is coming to the Philippines this December
Before the pandemic, watching a movie required some extra effort. The whole experience of heading to a mall, lining up for tickets, getting popcorn, and sitting in a theater with a bunch of strangers was an experience in itself. Movie-going was something special to look forward to for dates and catching up with friends.
While most of us have gotten used to movie nights at home with the variety of streaming services for binge-watching, it would be great to be able to catch a movie outdoors before the year ends. While we have drive-in cinema options for socially-distanced movie watching, the experience has largely been limited to car-owners.
A mall in McKinley Hill in Taguig is leveling up the movie-going game by launching the first and only float-in cinema in the Philippines just in time for the holidays.
In a recent post on their Facebook page, Megaworld Cinemas shared that they would be opening the first and only float-in cinema in the country.
The teaser video shows an image of a large screen at the Venice Grand Canal Mall, located in McKinley Hill, which offers gondola rides inspired by the Italian town. Based on the video, it looks like viewers will get to watch movies while riding aboard the Venetian boats. The mall also shared the news in an Instagram post, with a photo of the artifical waterway, and the message: "Stay tuned for the first and only float-in cinema in the country!"
Not much else has been revealed except for the fact that the floating cinema will be coming this December, just in time for Christmas season. Sounds like a romantic destination for movie night.
