How many hours a day do you spend online?

A recent study from Brussels-based marketing and advertising consultant Sortlist found that Filipinos are spending nearly half the year online with more than a third of it on social media platforms.

The data showed Pinoys are connected to the internet for 10 hours and 56 minutes a day, which in turn, totals to 166 days a year. Of that time, four hours and 15 minutes a day are spent on social media, which equates to 65 days a year.

The most used app is YouTube with users clocking in 11 days and 14 hours a year, with Facebook (nine days and 18 hours a year), and Whatsapp (nine days and 17 hours per a year). TikTok is in the fifth position with users spending six days and 16 hours a year in the app.

Aside from scrolling through social platforms, people sink in the most minutes within gaming. 23 minutes are spent per day on sports games, 21 minutes on casual games, and 19 minutes on hyper-casual games.

Sortlist also reported that 67% of the population uses the internet.

Other countries ranking in the Top 5 most online are Brazil, Colombia, South Africa, and Argentina.

At the other end of the spectrum, users in Japan spent the least time online, with just four hours and 25 minutes a day online.

In 2021, the Philippines was named as the top country with citizens who are most online according to research by Hootsuite and We Are Social, making it the sixth straight year the country had been in their rankings.
