Calling all writers! The Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature returns and is now accepting entries

Think you got the writing chops to bag a Palanca Award?

After a two-year hiatus, the longest-running prestigious literary contest in the country is back and now accepting entries to the 70th Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature.

The competition welcomes written pieces across several categories, including the following:

  • Novel and nobela
  • English division - short story, short story for children, essay, poetry, poetry written for children, one-act play, and full-length play
  • Filipino division - mailing kuwento, mailing kwentong pambata, sanaysay, tula, tulang para sa mga bata, dulang may isang yugto, dulang ganap ang haba, and dulang pampelikula
  • Regional languages division - short stories in Cebuano, Hiligaynon, and Ilokano.

There's also a special Kabataan division for writers below 18 years of age accepting informal (personal) essays, in English and Filipino, following the theme: "Life in the midst of the pandemic and coping in the new normal."

Poets and literary writers who are Filipino citizens or former Filipino citizens of all ages can join the contest, except current directors, officers, and employees of the Carlos Palanca Foundation, Inc.

Those who wish to join may only submit one entry per category until May 31, 2022.
