Andrew Garfield was told he wasn't 'handsome enough' to play this role
Yep, Andrew and ‘not handsome’ in the same sentence.
Golden Globe winner Andrew Garfield has revealed that even he didn't meet Hollywood standards at one point in his career.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Amazing Spider-Man actor shared that he was “desperate” to portray Prince Caspian in the second installment of the Disney franchise Chronicles of Narnia based on the C. S. Lewis fantasy novels.
"I thought, ‘This could be it, this could be it,'” Garfield said.
The 2008 film eventually cast fellow British actor Ben Barnes, but Garfield wanted to know the reason behind the recast: “I think it was down to me and him, and I remember I was obsessed.”
Garfield nagged his agent on the role choice: "She eventually just broke under my incessant nagging and she was like, ‘It’s because they don’t think you’re handsome enough, Andrew.'" Jaw, meet the floor.
Nevertheless, Garfield went on to praise Barnes for his portrayal: “Ben Barnes is a very handsome, talented man so in retrospect, I’m not unhappy with the decision and I think he did a beautiful job.”
True enough, two years later, Garfield went on to make a name for himself through the 2010 films Never Let Me Go and The Social Network before nabbing the coveted role of Peter Parker in the Sony Spider-Man sequels.
Earlier this month, the 38-year old star also earned his first Golden Globe win for the Lin Manuel Miranda-helmed musical Tick, Tick... Boom!
