'About Us But Not About Us' play to return in October
If you're one of those who missed or wish to relive the stage adaptation of director Jun Robles Lana's About Us But Not About Us, you’re getting another chance to catch the acclaimed play onstage!
The IdeaFirst Company announced that the play will have a rerun from Oct. 9 to 25 later this year.
Romnick Sarmenta, who plays English literature professor Eric, couldn't help but be proud of their production.
"What a journey it has been. It's amazing doing the film and then doing this stage play live version," he said.
"'Yung ganitong klaseng material, napakadaming layers na kailangan niyan pa," Elijah Canlas, who plays his former student Lancelot, added. "We started in September, I think. We started doing this, rehearsing, trying to find out all the layers, lahat ng pwedeng matutunan about these characters in the story."
About Us But Not About Us premiered in February and closed its first run on March 8 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Black Box Theater in Circuit Makati.
Aside from Sarmenta and Canlas, the stage play also stars Epy Quizon, Andoy Ranay, Geraldine Malacaman-Villamil, Herbie Go, Noel Rayos, Jack Denzel, and Jao Catarus.
The psychological drama revolves around Eric and Lance, who share a meal at a BGC restaurant and reminisce about Marcus, Eric's partner, who he lost to suicide. Over the course of their conversation, dark secrets are revealed, differing perspectives cloud memories, and trauma responses emerge.
The play is adapted from the 2022 film of the same name by Lana, which premiered as one of the official entries for the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, where it won the Best Film award.
