Manny Jacinto, Liza Soberano, Charo Santos, Dingdong Dantes to star in animated series 'Sun Chaser'
Another international animation is shining the spotlight on the Philippines. Liza Soberano, Manny Jacinto, Charo Santos, Dingdong Dantes, and more Filipino actors are starring in the upcoming animated series, Sun Chaser.
The adventure-comedy series centers on Jordan Santos (played by Jacinto), a "self-absorbed teen" whose carefree summer is disrupted when an ancient icy villain attacks his grandmother’s island in the Philippines, per a report by Variety.
Taking on an unexpected role of protector of his younger cousins, Jordan, alongside his crew, gets dragged into a mythic ocean realm, where they set sail on a legendary vessel known as the Sun Chaser.
"As they navigate enchanted seas and extraordinary islands to rescue his grandmother and save the island, Jordan must evolve from a reluctant kid into a true leader," the logline read.
Sun Chaser is helmed by Oscar-nominated animator Bobby Pontillas and Bernard Badion and is produced by Miguel Del Rosario and Marlyn Montan. It is entirely animated by the Toon City and PlayLab studios in the Philippines and is co-produced by Liza Soberano’s Funny Face Films.
It is set to premiere its pilot at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, happening from June 21 to 27 in Annecy, France.
Starring alongside Jacinto and Soberano are Zia Dantes, AC Bonifacio, KD Estrada, Eugene Cordero, and stand-up comedian JR De Guzman.
The series was among the chosen pitches under the "TV Series & Specials" at Animation du Monde at the 2025 festival. The other Pinoy work was Zsazsa Zaturnnah under “Work In Progress Features” by director Avid Liongoren with Rocketsheep Studios.
