'Squid Game' creator has new casino crime series in production
A new Korean crime drama series from the creator of the hit Netflix franchise Squid Game is now in the works.
The streaming platform made the announcement on its website, sharing that it will be produced by Hwang Dong-hyuk.
Based on the site's synopsis, the upcoming Netflix offering titled The Dealer "follows Geonhwa, a brilliant casino dealer whose wedding plans suddenly fall apart, forcing her to unleash her long-hidden powers and plunge into the dangerous world of gambling, in order to successfully make it down the aisle."
The series stars Jung So-min (Love Reset, Alchemy of Souls, Love Next Door) as the adept and seasoned dealer Jung Geonhwa, Ryoo Seung-bum (Good News and Tazza: One Eyed Jack) as the pathological gambler Hwang Chisu, Lee Soo-hyuk (S-Line) as casino player Jo Jun, Ryu Kyung-soo (The Bequeathed) as Choi Wooseung, Geonhwa’s gentle fiancé who is also a cunning detective.
This project marks the directorial debut of Choi Young-hwan, an acclaimed cinematographer behind hit films Smugglers, Tazza: The High Rollers, and The Thieves. Aside from Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game production company Firstman Studio will also do behind-the-scenes work.
The Dealer is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix. The release date is yet to be revealed.
