First look at The Haunting of Hill House Season 2

The Haunting of Hill House was a hit when it premiered on Netflix in 2018. The incredible horror drama series based on the 1959 novel by Shirley Jackson alternates between two timelines following five siblings and their paranormal experiences at Hill House.

After two years, fans are finally getting a glimpse at the much-anticipated second season, The Haunting of Bly Manor, including a poster, photos, and juicy details thanks to an exclusive first look presented by Vanity Fair.

The second season features some familiar faces in an all-new home. Several Hill House actors have returned for new roles (ala American Horror Story), including Victoria Pedretti (Nell), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Luke), Henry Thomas (younger version of family patriarch Hugh Crain) and Kate Siegel (Theo). The second season also features new cast members including T’Nia Miller (Years and Years), Rahul Kohli (iZombie), Amelia Eve, Benjamin Ainsworth and Amelie Smith.

Like Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor is based off the 1898 novella by Henry James, The Turn of the Screw, considered an iconic piece of literature in gothic fiction. The book tells the story of a governess (played by Pedretti), who is hired to look after a pair of siblings (played by Ainsworth and Smith) whose parents have died. However, several ghosts around their manor house exhibit a supernatural hold over the children.

Showrunner Mike Flanagan (director of Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game, and Hush) and producing partner Trevor Macy worked to modernize the setting and expand the original text, as Bly Manor now takes place mostly in 1987.

Judging by the photos, horror fans are in for a treat as they’re introduced to a whole new slew of ghosts and spectres. While some photos feature bright, sunny scenes, most capture the same gothic and melancholic vibe of the first season, especially the creepy shot of abandoned toys in the basement.

Like Hill House, the layering of hidden ghosts and easter eggs in the background will make a comeback in the sequel, encouraging viewers to watch and rewatch scenes closely.

The Haunting of Bly Manor is expected to premiere on Netflix this Fall 2020.
