ICYDK: Motorola's new concept of a smatphone wraps around your wrist
From launching flip phones to foldable handsets, Motorola is out to take things to a different level with the same concept with a different execution. But what makes the difference?
Motorola unveiled at Lenovo Tech World 2023 its new adaptive display concept, dubbed the "e-bangle" smartphone. It fits around the user's wrist like a slap bracelet.
The unique concept, first introduced in 2016, didn't gain much hype until the tech brand reintroduced it this month. Now, the prototype has been making rounds on social media for its 6.9-inch HD+ display that can be folded down to 4.6 inches and stands like a tent.
By encasing the gadget in an orange fabric and securing it with a magnetic wrist strap, it can be customized to a user's preferences, even as part of their OOTDs.
The company stresses the presence of a locally installed generative AI model that enables consumers to customize the look and feel of their phone.
With the help of this technology, "users can upload or capture a picture of their outfit to produce multiple unique AI-generated images that reflect their style," the Chicago-based company said. "These images can then be used as a custom wallpaper on their device."
According to Mashable, the 2,220 x 1080 plastic OLED screen has benefits over glass-based displays in terms of weight, thickness, cost, and energy efficiency, but it is more prone to scratches. The device is currently a concept and not yet available in the market.
Along with announcing the bendable phone, Motorola also introduced several new AI features for its PCs and smartphones. These features include compressing long texts and documents, hiding sensitive information, and enhancing document scanning abilities.
Motorola also previewed the rollable Rizr earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2023), joining other companies like Vivo, Transsion Holdings, and TCL in getting ready to launch yet another form factor with rollable screens in 2024.
